Have you ever hired a contractor that left you holding the bag? One who's work product was so poor that you wonder how they stay in business?
Read about my experience with Limitless Irrigation, and decide for yourself if this is how you'd want their "highly trained technicians" to leave your yard.

WHY YOU SHOULD NOT CHOOSE LIMITLESS IRRIGATION

They left me with two systems where nothing worked. For the drainage system - catch basins weren't installed, pipes were sticking up out of the ground, and connections weren't complete. For the sprinkler system, water wasn't flowing at all because one of them closed a valve that was clearly labeled "Do Not Close". Once I opened the valve, what I found were broken pipes, broken sprinklers, an improperly installed controller, and piping laying at ground level. Short of re-laying all the pipes, I had to virtually rebuild the entire sprinkler system myself. Even after I corrected the majority of the issues, and despite his agreement to do so, Kyle Story refused to come back and finish the rest.

Per their website they state "Limitless is dedicated to producing quality and high functioning irrigation to you and your lawn."

I think most people would agree that their work for me was neither functional nor of quality. I urge you to read about my experience with Limitless Irrigation. Look at the issues list, the pictures, and the videos of the mess they left me and then ask yourself:

Do you think that any of their work would be considered "quality and high functioning"?

COMMUNICATION

According to their website they pride themselves on ease of scheduling, communication, and your time.

The only proactive communication I received from them was a set of text messages announcing their pending arrival for the first day of the project. After that, I was left guessing as to who would and wouldn't show up on a given day, or at a given time. Their lack of communication didn't just extend to me as the homeowner, but also to their employees. I'd look outside and Drey, a gentleman that they brought in to help dig, would be here alone for several hours, trying to be busy without any real direction.

After I had to ask them to leave and come back, they agreed to come back in two weeks. On the thirteenth day, I found out via text message that they were off on a cruise. Kyle committed to fix some of the items when he got back. I waited all day that following Monday, and he didn't just fail to keep his word and show up - there was no communication whatsoever.

If you were the customer, would you find this to be good communication?

Would you think of this as them valuing your time?

TWO SIDES

to every story

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would hire an irrigation company that produced such substandard work. Why would I? Limitless Irrigation has great reviews and Kyle presented himself as extremely confident in their ability to do the job. Whenever I pointed out something that I thought would be challenging he'd either tell me how easy that would be or that it wouldn't be a problem. Fast-forward to doing the actual work and all of a sudden there were problems - especially for Gryphon. There were several notable instances where Gryphon wanted changes so that he didn't have to dig through roots. We would discuss these changes as a group, and upon agreeing to the changes together, I'd absorb the costs and the time to incorporate the changes into the design, and then work to ensure that we had the materials necessary to finish the job - just to later have Kyle accuse me of taking advantage of them for changes they requested and agreed to. When presented with a list of the issues, instead of offering to make things right, Kyle sought to make me the reason they failed and wouldn't come back to fix the problems.

Their website states "Kyle is going to work on your home or business irrigation needs as if it was his own". I would personally find it difficult to believe that he treated my home as if it was his own. Broad self complimentary assertions are easy to make, but let me ask you this...

If this is how they treated me and my property, would you make the mistake of putting your trust in Limitless Irrigation the way that I did?

Broken Pump Line Broken Pump Line

the other side of the story...

Look closely at the picture of the piping to the pump and imagine hiring a contractor where the owner's own work product is so poor that water sprays out of the line. Where he acknowledged the deficiency to the homeowner, promised to fix it, and then refused to return and correct his work. Kyle Story himself did all the piping into and out of the pump, and he left it like this. Now ask yourself...

Would you hire a contractor that you knew abandoned a project and left the customer hanging the way that Limitless Irrigation left me?

I personally don't believe that there are two sides to this story. If you go through this website and look closely at the issues, I think you'll agree with me. However, in an effort to be fair, I've included some of Kyle's core complaints, along with my rebuttals, so that you can decide for yourself.

LEARN FROM MY EXPERIENCE

I made any number of mistakes selecting Limitless Irrigation. There were warning flags that I should have paid more attention to. I gave far too much credence to their reviews and Kyle's confidence, and not enough to the details from our various discussions.

I never should have paid them as I did. They wanted half of the money up-front despite the fact that I bought all the components, and they had absolutely nothing invested. I looked at the request for up-front payment, kind of shook my head at it, and then paid it to demonstrate my commitment.

Paying them at the end without actually verifying the system worked was a colossal error on my part. As I was asking them to leave, regroup, and come back, I specifically asked Kyle if I could run my sprinkler system, and he told me yes. Based on his word, and in an effort to maintain good will, I offered to pay them the balance if they'd come back in two weeks to finish - which he agreed to and then refused to follow through on. Money is the only real leverage a homeowner has with a contractor.

Not scrutinizing their agreements was yet another issue. Their agreements are too lacking in detail to provide the customer with any real guarantees. When dealing with small business contractors, a lot of the work is done on a handshake basis. Most contractors live and die by their reputation - especially in a community as small as Vero Beach. Given that he explicitly told me that he would come back and his later failure to return, is there any way anyone could count on Kyle Story to keep his word?

Finally, given the scale of the work for both drainage and irrigation, the lack of permits should have been a definite red flag. I've never had a contractor pull permits to install passive drainage or a residential irrigation system. But, in hindsight, the amount of work we were doing and the routing of the water should have been permitted work.
