WHY YOU SHOULD NOT CHOOSE LIMITLESS IRRIGATION
They left me with two systems where nothing worked. For the drainage system - catch basins weren't installed, pipes were sticking up out of the ground, and connections weren't complete. For the sprinkler system, water wasn't flowing at all because one of them closed a valve that was clearly labeled "Do Not Close". Once I opened the valve, what I found were broken pipes, broken sprinklers, an improperly installed controller, and piping laying at ground level. Short of re-laying all the pipes, I had to virtually rebuild the entire sprinkler system myself. Even after I corrected the majority of the issues, and despite his agreement to do so, Kyle Story refused to come back and finish the rest.
Per their website they state "Limitless is dedicated to producing quality and high functioning irrigation to you and your lawn."
I think most people would agree that their work for me was neither functional nor of quality. I urge you to read about my experience with Limitless Irrigation. Look at the issues list, the pictures, and the videos of the mess they left me and then ask yourself:
Do you think that any of their work would be considered "quality and high functioning"?
COMMUNICATION
According to their website they pride themselves on ease of scheduling, communication, and your time.
The only proactive communication I received from them was a set of text messages announcing their pending arrival for the first day of the project. After that, I was left guessing as to who would and wouldn't show up on a given day, or at a given time. Their lack of communication didn't just extend to me as the homeowner, but also to their employees. I'd look outside and Drey, a gentleman that they brought in to help dig, would be here alone for several hours, trying to be busy without any real direction.
After I had to ask them to leave and come back, they agreed to come back in two weeks. On the thirteenth day, I found out via text message that they were off on a cruise. Kyle committed to fix some of the items when he got back. I waited all day that following Monday, and he didn't just fail to keep his word and show up - there was no communication whatsoever.
If you were the customer, would you find this to be good communication?
Would you think of this as them valuing your time?
REVIEWS
I hired Limitless Irrigation, LLC to install a passive drainage system and a new sprinkler system. Leading up to the start of the project I, had Kyle out to look at our property and discuss what I wanted multiple times. He assured me, multiple times, that this would be easy, and that he was eager to do the project. I did the design, told him how many feet of pipe needed to be installed, and I purchased all the materials. All he had to do was come in with his team and install the two systems. They had every opportunity to be successful with our project, yet over the course of the two and a half weeks they were here, we rarely had a full complement of workers because they didn't have enough staff on hand, and instead of focusing on our project, they spent significant time away servicing their other customers. I was very patient and tolerant with this - probably too much so. I understand what it's like to run a small company, and I was willing to be flexible as long as the work got done right. What we got instead were two systems where nothing worked.
They got in a bind when they committed to another installation project before mine was done, and then started slapping things together so poorly that I had to ask them to leave, allow them to do the other project, regroup, and then come back to finish mine. We agreed that they'd come back in two weeks, and in that time I'd pull together an issues list. As an act of good faith, I even paid them (foolish me). Two weeks is fourteen days. Come to find out, he was off on a cruise when the fourteenth day came around. No communication whatsoever. Nothing to indicate that he and his team wouldn't be returning in the committed timeframe. When I emailed him the issues list and expressed my dissatisfaction, he seemed to take it personally, then refused to return to fix the few remaining issues or finish the work.
In looking at some of their other reviews, everyone is enamored with the fairness of their pricing. At Site One here in Vero Beach, they regularly indicated what a great guy they think Kyle is. I also found his pricing to be fair, and I likewise found him to be very affable. However, his pricing turned out to be extremely unfair when I had to bring in another contractor to finish the job, and his affability disappeared after I expressed my dissatisfaction. Once I did find another contractor to finish the work, I paid a premium because contractors don't want to fix, or finish, another contractor's work.
I do not recommend Kyle Story, Gryphon Todd, or Limitless Irrigation, LLC.
After posting my review to their Facebook page, instead of addressing my complaints on the merits - they blocked me, and then his wife and others left a flurry of positive reviews to push mine down and bolster their rating. It stretches the imagination to believe that these were spontaneous reviews. But then again, there's not much they can say to defend their poor work quality. Pictures don't lie.
Met him one day servicing my neighbors changed ahead for me. That was absolutely broken. Said it come back when he evaluated my system. Had an appointment for 3 to 4 in the afternoon showed up at noon when I wasn’t home don’t feel he checked all my heads as he said he would and adjust them for the $80, requested an estimate on coming back an asked him to break it down so I could pick and choose what areas I want and repair. He gave me the areas that needed to be repaired, but put his labor all in which was no help to me because I don’t wanna pay over $200 to adjust these heads just the ones that I really needed , so I guess I won’t be calling him back but doesn’t follow through with my request
I incorporated Margaret T.'s review from the Limitless Irrigation's Google review because it raises important issues that I overlooked with their quotes and their contracts. These are things you might want to consider before entering into an agreement with them. To learn more click here.
Don’t recommend. Came out twice for dry spots. Blamed it on everything but their sub par service. Wasted service call fee and now I have to call a REAL irrigation company to fix my problem. Obviously they do have “limits”.
I incorporated Jesse C.'s review from the Limitless Irrigation's Facebook review because it reinforces a couple of my points. I saw a different version of the poor attitude from their technician - especially his repeated need for changes to make his job easier. But more importantly, it reinforces my assertion that when faced with criticism, they're quick to make it the homeowner's fault. You can read the entire exchange here.
TWO SIDES
to every story
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would hire an irrigation company that produced such substandard work. Why would I? Limitless Irrigation has great reviews and Kyle presented himself as extremely confident in their ability to do the job. Whenever I pointed out something that I thought would be challenging he'd either tell me how easy that would be or that it wouldn't be a problem. Fast-forward to doing the actual work and all of a sudden there were problems - especially for Gryphon. There were several notable instances where Gryphon wanted changes so that he didn't have to dig through roots. We would discuss these changes as a group, and upon agreeing to the changes together, I'd absorb the costs and the time to incorporate the changes into the design, and then work to ensure that we had the materials necessary to finish the job - just to later have Kyle accuse me of taking advantage of them for changes they requested and agreed to. When presented with a list of the issues, instead of offering to make things right, Kyle sought to make me the reason they failed and wouldn't come back to fix the problems.
Their website states "Kyle is going to work on your home or business irrigation needs as if it was his own". I would personally find it difficult to believe that he treated my home as if it was his own. Broad self complimentary assertions are easy to make, but let me ask you this...
If this is how they treated me and my property, would you make the mistake of putting your trust in Limitless Irrigation the way that I did?
the other side of the story...
Look closely at the picture of the piping to the pump and imagine hiring a contractor where the owner's own work product is so poor that water sprays out of the line. Where he acknowledged the deficiency to the homeowner, promised to fix it, and then refused to return and correct his work. Kyle Story himself did all the piping into and out of the pump, and he left it like this. Now ask yourself...
Would you hire a contractor that you knew abandoned a project and left the customer hanging the way that Limitless Irrigation left me?
I personally don't believe that there are two sides to this story. If you go through this website and look closely at the issues, I think you'll agree with me. However, in an effort to be fair, I've included some of Kyle's core complaints, along with my rebuttals, so that you can decide for yourself.
LEARN FROM MY EXPERIENCE
I made any number of mistakes selecting Limitless Irrigation. There were warning flags that I should have paid more attention to. I gave far too much credence to their reviews and Kyle's confidence, and not enough to the details from our various discussions.
I never should have paid them as I did. They wanted half of the money up-front despite the fact that I bought all the components, and they had absolutely nothing invested. I looked at the request for up-front payment, kind of shook my head at it, and then paid it to demonstrate my commitment.
Paying them at the end without actually verifying the system worked was a colossal error on my part. As I was asking them to leave, regroup, and come back, I specifically asked Kyle if I could run my sprinkler system, and he told me yes. Based on his word, and in an effort to maintain good will, I offered to pay them the balance if they'd come back in two weeks to finish - which he agreed to and then refused to follow through on. Money is the only real leverage a homeowner has with a contractor.
Not scrutinizing their agreements was yet another issue. Their agreements are too lacking in detail to provide the customer with any real guarantees. When dealing with small business contractors, a lot of the work is done on a handshake basis. Most contractors live and die by their reputation - especially in a community as small as Vero Beach. Given that he explicitly told me that he would come back and his later failure to return, is there any way anyone could count on Kyle Story to keep his word?
Finally, given the scale of the work for both drainage and irrigation, the lack of permits should have been a definite red flag. I've never had a contractor pull permits to install passive drainage or a residential irrigation system. But, in hindsight, the amount of work we were doing and the routing of the water should have been permitted work.
